When it comes to events, we see things through a different lens.
Now don’t get us wrong. We absolutely love a good highlight reel. Fast cuts. Big smiles. That one perfect drone shot at golden hour.
It works. It gets people hyped. But does it actually tell your event story?
What makes your event different from the rest?
Why should your audience make a date with you?
What’s the angle only your event can own?
In other words… how do you think outside the stage box? (See what we did there.)
Often the biggest shift is a very simple one. Pivot your thinking from documenting to storytelling.
What we mean by this is don’t start your video planning with a shot list of people and places to capture, but rather take a pause and ask yourself this single question:
What story are we telling?
That could look like:
- A returning guest rediscovering an event.
- A first-time attendee experiencing it in real time.
- A behind-the-scenes look at the Op crew making it all happen.
Not sure what we mean? Well, have a seat and let’s start the show…
Slow Roll – Never Too Late To Slow Roll
Part of the Why I Love Oshkosh series, this video follows brand ambassador Pat, the tour guide you never knew you needed.
As he considers his return to one of Oshkosh’s favorite events, Slow Roll, we leaned into a movie trailer concept. (Summer blockbuster energy, minus the explosions.)
A little drama. A little nostalgia. And yes… a subtle nod to Rocky. Because every good comeback deserves a training montage.
The marketing goal? Leave you on the edge of your seat and ready to mark your calendar to slow roll with Pat all summer long.
XRoads 41 – A First Look
For XRoads 41, we started from the beginning. In its second year, the festival needed more than a recap. It needed a story that captured what makes this festival unique and unlike any other music festival in Wisconsin.
So we brought Pat back. This time as the first-timer. He hits the campgrounds, samples the food, checks out the attractions, meets festival goers and takes in the stage from every angle. Because the best way to tell this festival’s brand story… was to discover it. (Oshkosh-style.)
Ready to Spotlight your Stage?
As you start planning your next event video, don’t overthink it.
Go back to the basics.
What makes your event different?
Why should someone make a date with you?
What’s the angle only your event can own?
Answer those and the story tends to write itself.
